Rejection

Sat Jul 11, 2009, 4:54 PM
Well the poems I submitted to the journal got rejected. Not unexpected, but still disappointing. I was told my stuff was too archaic and that the rhymes dominated the poems rather than the content. I can't say they don't have a point, but *shrugs*

I was told to read more contemporary stuff. I had read one of the people they listed and I like his stuff fine enough, but it's way too transient for me. I'd like a poem to have more of an effect than be forgotten after I've turned the page. Maybe I'm just not getting everything his poems have to offer.

First submission

I've submitted three poems to Free Lunch so hopefully that will go well! It'll probably take a few months for a response on it, but here's to hoping I'll get published! (As the exclamations may imply I'm really excited about this. Even if they aren't accepted they editor often comments on rejected works so that's a definite plus.)

Happy birthday to me.

So the title basically sums it up. I'm at work right now because tomorrow is subgroup so I need to prepare today (and see how much stuff I actually did with finals week being last week and all) so I'll skip work on Saturday instead. I baked a cake for myself and put the title on as the saying.

Went to see Angels and Demons yesterday as my b-day party of sorts. It was good. I liked it better than the DaVinci code, but perhaps that's because the plot was more typical thriller fare? Not saying that the plot wasn't good, but it definitely followed a more common kind of vein than the DaVinci code did.

As for poetry I've been writing more recently. I have a couple of them in the works that need to be edited/finished. I need to try and find a new poet friendly magazine that fits my style to submit a few that I haven't put up here already. Hopefully they'll like them.

That's about it for now. I'm off to an eye appointment soon. Hope I can work effectively after that.

new poem

Fri Apr 24, 2009, 8:05 PM
So I finished writing a new poem and if you want to see it let me know. It borders on dirty (or maybe crosses over the line) so I'm warning you. I'm not posting it directly because I'm still toying with the publication idea and if I go that route anything put on here counts as published so that limits my options.

Also grad school absorbs my time.

Publication

So I've had a friend of two tell me that I should try and get some of this published. I was curious what the rest of you thought of the idea and if you think so if you know anything about the process or the way to go about it.
